Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation, in its spiritual sense, is made as reverence to the “God of the Sun”. Regarded in many cultures as a life-giving God and life energy (prana).

The practice of Ashtanga Yoga begins with Surya Namaskar A and B, which are a practice in itself. It is the first approach to the practice of Ashtanga Yoga.

These sequences (Surya Namaskar A and B) contain the essence of the practice, where we can apply all the fundamental principles. It could be considered as the foundation of the Yoga practice, where the practitioner become more aware and respectful to their own body, and learn how to coordinate breath and movement in a constant rhythm, and also how to approach it (Vinyasa), accompanied by the three centers of attention or action: deep breathing, asana and drishtis.

During the repetition of Surya Namaskar A and B we access a state of stability of the mind, it also produces a physical response, where the body begins to generate internal heat, essential in the purification process. Also warms the joints and muscles preparing them for the next steps.
