Tiruvannamalai is considered a pilgrimage town, under the presence of Holy Arunachala Hill, that is Shiva itself and means “Hill of Wisdom”.
Is a sacred place for the indians and devotees of Shiva and Sri Ramana Maharshi. There, is located the Ramanasramam, an ashram built on the foot of Arunachala, spreading the teachings of Ramana, regarding to Self-inquiry or Atma-Vichara.
Every full moon, thousands of pilgrims worship ArunachalaShiva, by walking around the Hill barefoot [Giri Pradakshina].
The town is a spiritual center, surrounded by many temples, Ashram and caves, and the icon is one of the biggest Shiva Temple in India: Annamalaiyar Temple.
